Genelec G Three Active Loudspeaker
Herb Reichert
Active loudspeakers, subwoofers, and room-adaptive monitoring systems
Genelec has pursued truthful active loudspeaker reproduction since 1978. Developed first for professional monitoring, its systems unite drivers, amplification, signal processing, enclosure design, and room adaptation within one controlled architecture.
Active design allows Genelec to match amplification and crossover behavior directly to the transducers they control. This removes a major group of variables from conventional system matching and permits protection, equalization, delay, and level management to be engineered as part of the loudspeaker rather than added later.
Genelec's Smart Active Monitor systems extend that integration to the room. Through the Genelec Loudspeaker Manager network and GLM software, compatible monitors and subwoofers can be measured and calibrated for level, distance, delay, and room-response anomalies. System configurations can be stored and recalled, allowing consistent performance from stereo installations through multichannel and immersive systems.
The company designs and manufactures its products in Iisalmi, Finland, where research, development, and production remain closely connected. Genelec also places unusual emphasis on service life, supporting products that remain in professional use for decades.
Genelec systems are designed to reveal the recording with neutrality, low distortion, precise imaging, and controlled directivity. In the home, the active architecture provides a compact and orderly path to high performance, while GLM helps address the unavoidable interaction between loudspeaker and room.
The experience is direct and intelligible: images remain stable, tonal balance is controlled, and musical detail is presented without requiring the listener to assemble a separate chain of crossovers and power amplifiers.
GTT offers Genelec for clients who value accuracy, system integration, room adaptability, and long-term reliability. The range is particularly compelling where space is limited, where the room presents difficult acoustic conditions, or where stereo, cinema, and immersive reproduction must be designed within a unified platform.
Active loudspeakers are not installation-free loudspeakers. Their potential still depends on model selection, placement, subwoofer integration, calibration, and the priorities of the listener. GTT provides that system-level judgment so Genelec's technical precision becomes a convincing musical result in the room.
