Mola Mola / Makua with Built-In DAC

Mola Mola Makua with Built-In DAC Reference Preamplifier with Installed Mola Mola DAC Option

Offered for sale is a Mola Mola Makua preamplifier with the optional Mola Mola DAC installed. This is a serious analog control center and high-performance digital source in one beautifully compact chassis—not a preamplifier with a convenience DAC added as an afterthought. The Makua brings Mola Mola’s unusually transparent line-stage design together with the company’s proprietary digital conversion architecture.

Five analog input positions can be selected between balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connections, while two parallel balanced XLR output pairs provide flexibility for bi-amplified systems. Six programmable presets and the Mola Mola Remote app allow useful source naming, routing, and level configuration. The relay-based volume control directly adjusts the output stage’s gain, preserving resolution while providing smooth, precise operation.

The installed DAC uses Mola Mola’s own digital algorithms and discrete conversion circuitry rather than an off-the-shelf DAC chip. Incoming digital audio is processed into high-rate, noise-shaped PWM before conversion through discrete FIR DAC stages. Maurice Jeffries, reviewing a DAC-equipped Makua for Positive Feedback in a review republished by Enjoy the Music, wrote that “the onboard Makua DAC is a sonic revelation.” — Maurice Jeffries, Positive Feedback / Enjoy the Music. He continued: “The module's perceived dynamic range is off the charts, with noise levels that approach the unmeasurable.” — Maurice Jeffries, Positive Feedback / Enjoy the Music.

GTT is the North American distributor for Mola Mola. The appeal of this Makua is straightforward: a deeply revealing preamplifier and a highly accomplished DAC, already integrated into one coordinated component. It gives a serious mixed-source system a clean, flexible foundation without requiring a separate DAC chassis or an additional analog interconnect between DAC and preamplifier.
