GTT Perspective · Kronos Audio
Two platters, turning in opposite directions.
The Sparta is Kronos Audio's entry to its counter-rotating turntables: two platters, each driven by its own motor, suspended from above.
The Kronos idea, without extras
Kronos calls the Sparta its no-frills platform, an entry to the world of Kronos. It is essentially two complete turntables, each with a skeletal plinth built from solid aluminum. The two platters turn in opposite directions, each on its own motor, and hang from a network of elastomers that isolates the mechanism from outside vibration.
Counter-rotation runs through the whole line, from the Sparta to the flagship Discovery.
What the engineering actually does
Two platters, opposite directions
Two counter-rotating platters, each driven by its own motor. Kronos says its counter-rotating design minimizes vibration induced by torque forces.
Suspended from above
The platters hang from a network of elastomers that isolates the mechanism from external vibration.
The platters
Composite compressed phenolic and aluminum, balanced; 27 lb (12 kg) each.
The whole table
20 in W × 14 in D × 11 in H (51 × 36 × 28 cm); 70 lb (32 kg); 33⅓ and 45 rpm.
Questions we hear in the listening room
What is the Sparta?
Kronos Audio's entry turntable: two counter-rotating platters, two motors, suspended from above.
How does it relate to the Discovery?
Both are counter-rotating, suspended Kronos designs. The Discovery is the flagship; the Sparta is the entry to the line.
